College Sports with Bryant Gumble
Posted by: | CommentsI have my DVR set to record this program tonight. Here are Part 1 and 2 to the video introduction. Looks good to me.
Money and March Madness
Posted by: | CommentsA segment in this week’s Frontline. Parts 1, 2, and 3 are below. HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumble is also looking into the issue this week (tonight at 10 pm). I will post that video tomorrow if available. Check them out, for even though the issue is far from simple, I believe without a shadow of a doubt that the NCAA is well behind the times.

Bruce Pearl Fired
Posted by: | CommentsAfter a tumultuous season and a 30 point loss to Michigan in the NCAA tourney, Tennessee has finally decided to fire Head Basketball Coach, Bruce Pearl. If you keep up with this blog, you know I believe this is the right decision. No doubt, Pearl seems to be a good coach in many regards. His players seem motivated and usually play well together. His overall record at Tennessee speaks for itself. That being said, from what I have read about and seen from him, he is not a man whom I would ever want to coach my son.
In this instance, I believe Tennessee has finally made the right decision. Much of it may have been generated by self-interest, but still, the right call is the right call. It leaves me wondering whether or not most of the problems we find in big-time collegiate sports wouldn’t be done away with simply by Universities firing or not hiring the guys who aren’t doing things the right way?
Check Out My Guest Post

The Fab Five Facade
Posted by: | CommentsI haven’t yet seen ESPN’s ‘documentary’ of the Fab Five, but I have read numerous negative reviews on it. One of the best comes from Fox Sports’ Jason Whitlock. I suppose that after finding out Jalen Rose was the executive producer, I wasn’t counting on much, but now, my expectations are even lower.
