Money and March Madness

Posted by: | Comments (0)

A segment in this week’s Frontline. Parts 1, 2, and 3 are below. HBO’s Real Sports with Bryant Gumble is also looking into the issue this week (tonight at 10 pm). I will post that video tomorrow if available. Check them out, for even though the issue is far from simple, I believe without a shadow of a doubt that the NCAA is well behind the times.

Bruce Pearl Fired

Posted by: | Comments (0)

After a tumultuous season and a 30 point loss to Michigan in the NCAA tourney, Tennessee has finally decided to fire Head Basketball Coach, Bruce Pearl. If you keep up with this blog, you know I believe this is the right decision. No doubt, Pearl seems to be a good coach in many regards. His players seem motivated and usually play well together. His overall record at Tennessee speaks for itself. That being said, from what I have read about and seen from him, he is not a man whom I would ever want to coach my son.

In this instance, I believe Tennessee has finally made the right decision. Much of it may have been generated by self-interest, but still, the right call is the right call. It leaves me wondering whether or not most of the problems we find in big-time collegiate sports wouldn’t be done away with simply by Universities firing or not hiring the guys who aren’t doing things the right way?

I posted over at my beautiful wife’s blog today regarding the prevalence of divorce in the marriages of professional athletes. It is all I have in me today and probably tomorrow as I am due for part two.

The Fab Five Facade

Posted by: | Comments (4)

I haven’t yet seen ESPN’s ‘documentary’ of the Fab Five, but I have read numerous negative reviews on it. One of the best comes from Fox Sports’ Jason Whitlock. I suppose that after finding out Jalen Rose was the executive producer, I wasn’t counting on much, but now, my expectations are even lower.

Thank You

I appreciate you taking the time to check in with me and to even scroll down to this, the end of the page. Considering you made it all the way to the bottom of the page, I am thinking you either found the material so compelling that you wanted to read more or found it so weak that you kept looking for something worth your time! I hope it was the former. Thanks again.
